The St. Louis city Franz Park neighborhood, on Maplewood’s eastern border, had a total reported crime rate that is 62.79 percent up from the same six-month period last year, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

In the 6-month time period, property crimes increased from 41 to 62, and violent crimes from two to eight.

The per-capita crime rate in the neighborhood over the past six months is 28.67 per 1,000 residents. But that doesn’t make it one of the higher-crime city neighborhoods; it’s a higher rate than 14 out of 77 total in the city.

  1. But crime in Ellendale, the other St. Louis neighborhood bordering Maplewood, is down 45% with 22 less property crimes and 1 less violent crime in the same timespan.

Add them together and the numbers are pretty much the same as last year.

I find it interesting that the only part that made it into your article is where crime is going up.

  2. Maybe the Maplewood police should increase their presence there by patrolling that area more. An increase of city cameras might also be a good idea.

    • I think we should set up a barricade for any of the criminal scum from the city who want to invade our community. Our own little “border wall”
