A Brentwood committee discussed adding an informational sign to the front of city hall at a meeting in Sept.

Who posts for the city of Brentwood on social media? The Brentwood Communications Committee discussed that, an informational sign in front of city hall, and video recording all city meetings at its Sept. 10 meeting, according to the posted minutes.

  • At the request of Mayor Chris Thornton, city staff had drafted a request for proposal (RFP) for video recordings of all city meetings, as is currently done for board of aldermen and planning and zoning meetings. It would include board of aldermen, ways and means, public works, public safety, communications committee,  planning and zoning, police and fire pension, architecture review board and board of adjustment. The RFP also includes creating a channel on the Internet, such as YouTube, where the recordings could be easily viewed. Kevin McCarthy, who recorded meetings for the city, resigned in August.
  • The committee discussed an incident where an appointed official expressed dismay on social media regarding a resident incident. The committee determined the official had not received accurate information. It was suggested that social media policy be covered in staff training, however this wouldn’t cover elected and appointed officials. Currently, city code designates that the city clerk/administrator is responsible for speaking with media outlets. The city attorney may look into the matter. The city is on Facebook, and is @BrentwoodMO on Twitter.
  • The committee discussed informational signage at city hall. The city’s sign code has recently been updated — it might be helpful to have a comprehensive plan for signs. The board previously decided against an informational sign, believing it would had clutter to the city.
