A letter went out to family and friends of the Brentwood School District in May asking for donations to cover the disappearance of thousand of dollars from the PTO account. On Tuesday Tamara Denise Jenkins, former treasurer of the BHS PTO, was charged with stealing more than $8,000 from the group, according to court records.
Jenkins, 44, of the 9000 block of West Swan Circle, was charged with stealing $750 or more, a class D felony, according to court records. Brentwood Police made the arrest.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the president of the PTO sensed trouble after checks issued to Brentwood seniors to use during an end-of-year trip were returned because of insufficient funds.
Charging documents said Brentwood police were called after the PTO president discovered missing money in March. Police said security video showed Jenkins making unauthorized withdrawals. They also said she used a debit card for the account to make a money order to pay her rent.
Bond was set at $10,000.
