In late October to early November Brentwood police made six arrests for shoplifting either at the Brentwood Promenade or other shopping areas along Eager Road, and Maplewood police arrested nine for shoplifting in Maplewood Commons.

Brentwood Detective Sgt. Jim McIntyre told KMOV the increase in crime isn’t a spike, it’s the time of year, referring to approaching holidays season.

“Unfortunately, tis the season,” McIntyre told KMOV reporter Steve Savard. He said when there’s more shopping, there’s more of these kinds of crimes.

McIntyre said Brentwood, Maplewood and Richmond Heights police work closely together to fight crime in the large shopping areas in the the three cities.
