The Brentwood Recreation Center, renovated this year, will reopen on September 5 with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., the Brentwood Recreation Department announced on Facebook.
The event will include music, The Bubble Bus, games, face painting, tours, a scavenger hunt, and more, according to the department.
In April this year officials approved additional work to bring the renovation project total to approximately $7.68 million, including architectural services, construction management, new furniture and a new dasher board around the rink.
Previously, in November 2013, then-mayor Pat Kelly listed the work to be done, for $2.9 million:
- Roof replacement, 476,000
- Mechanical system upgrades, 280,000
- New sprinkler system, to bring it up to code, 250,000
- New fire alarm system, 41,000
- Electrical system replacement upgrade, 519,000
- ADA improvements on the interior, 75,000
- ADA improvements on the exterior, 100,000
- Other code-related improvements, 5,000
- Structural slab replacement, 251,000
- Ice rink refrigeration equipment replacement (no Freon®) 912,000
$7.68 million? Seems RATHER high considering that structure, but I will not utter the word corruption out loud. Oh well, it’s just taxpayer money.
