Brentwood School District Superintendent David Faulkner said there’s no short comment to explain how Brentwood schools scored just under 100 percent on the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education 2015 report — tops in the St. Louis area. The report was released Friday.

This is what Faulkner had to say, by email, on how Brentwood schools made it to the top:
“The positive accreditation scores are the result of continual focus by our Board of Education, staff, volunteers, and parents on the needs of our students at every age. The students and their commitment to one another are vital components of the district’s academic success. We have not undertaken any dramatic new programs; rather, we work to refine practices that we know to be successful, and we explore new ways to attend to children’s needs.
“Because we are a small district, our staff have many responsibilities, but the close relationships that many adults form with students help students connect with the school community and engage in work that is challenging. We know we still have much to learn, and we look to larger districts to learn ways that they are being successful as well.
“We are also privileged to be in community that values public education and supports the work that has given Brentwood a long tradition of excellence. Good communities and good schools are strongly related. As a district, we are aware that having great schools is important not only for the graduates we prepare but also for maintaining strong property values in the community. In short, we our accreditation scores reflect the work of a diverse yet unified team who are committed to the highest ideals of public education.”
