A woman driving an Isuzu hit a light pole in front of Autozone (2905 Big Bend Boulevard) Saturday morning, Maplewood resident, Robert Chandler, messaged to 40 South News on Facebook. He said the impact threw the pole about 15 feet into the center of Big Bend, which shut down traffic going both ways.

Chandler said the woman left the scene and was later caught down the road, and was taken to the hospital. He said she appeared to not have insurance or refused to show it to police.

He said a couple of teenage girls who saw the accident got a flat tire trying to stop in the rubble, and that some “good Samaritans” changed their tire for them.

  1. Saw several bumper fragments and a pair of glittery shoes in the road on the next day and thought “Well well well…”
Glad no pedestrians were seriously hurt.

  2. It’s glad she hit a light pole instead of a pedestrian. The sidewalks along Big Bend are so dangerously close to the outside lanes.
