Francis Chmelir, Katie Kaufmann and Maria Langston won the three open seats in the school board vote.

With all votes counted on Tuesday, incumbents Maria Langston and Francis Chmelir; and Katie Kaufmann won the three open seats on the Maplewood Richmond Heights Board of Education.

Kaufmann won the most votes, with 692. Langston had 675 and Chmelir pulled 599. Daniel F. O’Sullivan lagged behind with 362. Langston, Chmelir and Kaufmann had run together.

The winners and their supporters met at The Post Sport Bar while the results came in.

“Katie (Kaufmann) brought some great energy,” Chmelir said. “We’ve had our eye on her as someone who would be a terrific board member.”

He said in addition to needing to find space for a growing student population, “obviously the school transfer issue looms large.”

The only other issue on the Maplewood ballot, Proposition S, an increase in the limit for the sewer lateral tax, passed 376-137.
