In a town where creativity, compassion, and connection define daily life, a new grassroots nonprofit is making big strides toward building a stronger community. The Maplewood Community Fund, created by neighbors for neighbors, is stepping into the spotlight this August as they partner with Side Project Brewing during Maplewood Makers Give Back Week.
Formed earlier this year, the Maplewood Community Fund’s mission is simple: to bridge the gap between those in need and those willing to help, whether that means supporting youth sports, enhancing school programs, or lending a hand to a neighbor during a difficult time.
“Maplewood Makers Give Back beautifully aligns with the Maplewood Community Fund’s mission to collaborate to create a supportive and thriving community for all,” said Colleen Cunningham, Chair of the Fund’s Board. “The timing is perfect. We’re grateful that Side Project is investing in our efforts. We hope to see our friends and neighbors at Side Project this week, toasting to a Maplewood that cares.”
“I’m very excited to work with such amazing community leaders on this project to bridge the gap,” said Dr. Michael Dittrich, board member for the Maplewood Community Fund. “As a longtime employee of the school district and a resident of Maplewood, I’ve often seen the gaps individuals and organizations may face. I’m hoping that through the generosity of our community, we can help in these situations and make our amazing community even stronger than ever. I hope to see our community invite their neighbors and friends out to support not only local businesses but organizations trying to do great work in our community.”
And this week, there’s a simple way for residents to get involved: support Side Project Brewing and join the growing movement behind the Maplewood Community Fund.
A Toast to Local Giving: Side Project Steps Up
During Maplewood Makers Give Back Week (August 4 to 10), Side Project Brewing is donating 10 percent of sales during select hours to the Maplewood Community Fund.  Side Project Owner/ Brewer Cory King said, “Side Project is thrilled to work with Maplewood Community Fund for Maplewood Makers Give Back this week! Please come visit one or all of our three tasting rooms and support this incredible organization that aims to help out our neighbors in need here in Maplewood.”
Please join the community on:
  • Tuesday, August 5 – The Cellar, 3 PM to 10 PM
  • Wednesday, August 6 – The Brewery, 4 PM to 8 PM
  • Thursday, August 7 – The Patio, 4 PM to 8 PM

Funds raised will help support the Fund’s upcoming fall grant cycle, which will provide direct assistance to local organizations, schools, and families facing challenges.

From Dunk Tank to Direct Impact: The Fund made its public debut at this spring’s Taste of Maplewood, teaming up with the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District to host a dunk tank fundraiser. It was all in good fun, but the impact was serious.
Proceeds from that single weekend helped the Fund make donations to:
  • MRH Choir Program
  • MRH Middle School Expedition Program
  • MRH Youth Sports
  • MRH High School Baseball
  • Boy Scout Troops
  • And several other community-focused efforts
It was a strong start for a brand new organization and just the beginning of what’s possible.
Shop. Dine. Make a Difference.
While Side Project plays a leading role this week for Maplewood Community Fund, they’re not alone in businesses that are stepping up. Maplewood Makers Give Back Week features local artists, chefs, shop owners, and creators, all stepping up to support neighborhood nonprofits through donations, promotions, or community drives.

Why It Matters
Though still in its early stages, the Maplewood Community Fund has a bold and lasting vision: to create a more equitable, compassionate, and connected Maplewood. By pooling small acts of generosity, the Fund aims to make a tangible difference for students, families, and community partners alike.
Every dollar, every outing, every act of support strengthens the safety net for those who need it most and helps write the next chapter in Maplewood’s story of neighborly care.
