Construction on The Heights at Manhasset Apartments, in Richmond Heights, has begun, according to city manager, Amy Hamilton, in an email on Thursday. She said it will last approximately 18 months.

The AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust (HIT) announced Tuesday it is investing $42 million in  financing. The project will be the first of four development phases, according to the AFL-CIO.

Jeff Aboussie, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the St. Louis Building and Construction Trades Council, said all construction work will be done with union workers.

In continuing phases, 240 units are to be completed in 2019 and a 12-story, 240-unit building is estimated to be completed in 2022.

Brentwood Ward 4 Alderman Tom Kramer in September introduced two bills to limit construction traffic on Eager Road, which borders the project. Both were defeated.

  1. If you live on Eager Road there is no question what street it is on in Brentwood. We are the only residents effected by the construction since Richmond Heights will not let any of the construction traffic near their residents.
