The Crow’s Nest restaurant, at 7336 Manchester Road, will be knocking down walls and incorporating the next-door space of the newly-moved Maven Apothecary at 7328 Manchester.
Crow’s Nest owner Eliza Coriell said Sunday that the kitchen will stay the same size so new dining can’t be added, so the new area will be used for arcade games. Popcorn and similar food will be available.
She said the new space is in a different building so two walls will need to be broken through. She didn’t want to try to estimate when the work could be completed.

It is interesting to me how separate building owners with separate insurance companies or policies can accomplish the fire liabilities, cutting a hole in a Party Walls.
The final option described in the IBC for the wall between two abutting buildings is a party wall. A party wall is described in the IBC as “Any wall located on a lot line between adjacent buildings, which is used or adapted for joint service between the two buildings…” (IBC 706.1.1). I have been in the attics of several builds along the Sutton and Manchester looking east, and my first impression was “This is a Firemen nightmare” Most citizens are not aware that fire protection in a building is in place for the firemen fighting a fire, do to the danger of collapse of a building on fire.
Conservative View I would like to reach out and thank you for the support you gave me, about the post from PL, I was confused. Now I can relax because I don’t see the 40 South News as one-sided. Everyone, please use the post to share.
Why privately?
By bringing it up in a public conversation, other’s in the community could join the conversation. The more input the better result could be.
I think it’s called transparency. I also view as constructive criticism, which is a good thing.
When we avoid hard conversations, we’re not keeping peace. We’re just keeping the tension.
Please continue to share your thoughts, and please continue being engaged.
The Crows Nest
Now is the opportunity to give these storefronts a complete renovation and add an “electric LED neon-lit look” upgraded signage. The canvas awnings look shabby and dated from the 1970’s. Glass windows can have a treatment to correct any problem. Old-fashioned awnings are not the fix. Design professionals will provide guidance if you like. The plywood t1-11 board and batten texture gets used on backyard sheds buildings, so passé! And the colors – In advertising and promotions, colors are used strategically to attract attention, evoke specific emotions, and encourage consumers to take action. Rob Birenbaum is on the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Maplewood Steering Committee. Show Maplewood. Rob has influence! For the proof, use the building and your partner’s building next door being combined and help “Maplewood Special Business District” live up to the title! This is 2024 not 1824. MSBD illuminated by scintillating neon signs, I’ll bet Joe Edwards would even help for no charge. “Being in the game is half the battle”. Rob Birenbaum. Are you ready, no fear, just step up to the plate. Show the community your ability in a leadership role. It is time to change the impoverished look that suggests Maplewood is in deprivation of something essential to richness or productiveness. The second-floor windows would be on the list also, they have a “been remodeled on a budget” quality, and they’re painted white. Mini blinds for window treatment HOA would not approve! Fashionable window treatments – show off those windows. Design and Detail could help and give back to the community. Get a designer to pick colors, paint is not that expensive. The Crows Nest – Break the cycle of Restaurants closing or moving from Maplewood, the building owners need to make capital improvements. Nature abhors a vacuum.’
