The Maplewood CVS pharmacy, along with approximately 7,700 CVS stores nationwide, has stopped selling selling tobacco products.

The move was made about a month ahead of schedule, according to the St. Louis Business Journal. A manager in the Maplewood store said the switch was made Wednesday.

Information to help smokers quit is on display by the front door. (Five years of smoking costs $10,037, according to the pamphlet.)

CVS is attempting to be seen as more of a health brand, rather than a general store, according to a report by the New York Times, the St. Louis Business Journal reported.

  1. Bravo to CVS. Now when is Walgreen’s going to do the same? My dad’s life was cut short by about 20 years because of his smoking–I base this life expectancy on his family history. With smoking banned from restaurants in St. Louis county, I am breathing easier these days. Had to leave a St. Charles restaurant because we couldn’t handle the smoke fumes.
