New shop needs permit amendment to open

For a new shop to open at the kiosk at 2944 S. Brentwood Boulevard the city first needs to say it’s OK as it is — without a stockade fence. It’s the former Brentwood Perc kiosk.

When the kiosk opened in 2002 without a fence, the site plan didn’t show it, but wasn’t placed as a condition on the conditional use permit, as it should have been.

The new site plan shows both the guard rail and  a fence, but planning and zoning said both aren’t required. Now it’s going to the board of aldermen, so say they don’t need to fence too.

“I couldn’t just unilaterally say it wasn’t required. That’s what the request to amend (the conditional use permit) was,” Brentwood Director of Planning and Development Lisa Koerkenmeier said. The plan and zoning commission recommend removing it. It will go before the board of aldermen on Monday, Sept. 19.

She said Andy Phelan owned the property in 2002, and that he’s the current applicant.

The Daily Perc wants to open without a fence, as it has been since 2002.
