David A. Dimmitt has announced his candidacy for Brentwood’s Ward 1 Alderman. The election is April 5th, 2016.  David is a 1989 graduate of Washington University School of Law. He has been in private practice as a trial attorney at Witzel, Kanzler & Dimmitt, LLC for 26 years. David first came to Brentwood in 1991 when his law office moved from downtown St. Louis to 2107 S. Brentwood Blvd.  In order to make way for redevelopment of the corner of Pine and Brentwood Blvd., David moved his office to its current location at 2001 S. Big Bend Blvd. in Maplewood.

David and his wife Jackie moved from St. Louis County to their current residence, 9104 Pine Ave., in 2001. Jackie, a 1992 graduate of St. Louis University School of Law, is an attorney at Thompson Coburn, LLP practicing in the fields of estate planning, tax planning and charitable giving. Together they have 2 children:  Nick, a Sophomore at SLUH and Zoe, a 6th grader at Immacolata. David and Jackie have been active parishioners at Immacolata since 2001.

David has served the City as a commissioner on Brentwood’s Planning and Zoning (P & Z) Board since 2006. In that time he helped shape commercial redevelopment in Brentwood including:

  • Hanley Station, Houlihan’s and Springhill Suites
  • Fontbonne University
  • Brentwood School District HQ and early Childhood Development Center relocation
  • Westlake ACE Hardware, Arby’s and OfficeDepot
  • Brentwood Promenade expansion
  • Drury Inn and Bonefish Grill

David helped to update Brentwood’s sign code and ordinances related to the Federal Flood Insurance Program.   He is also actively involved in updating Brentwood’s Comprehensive Plan, a master plan designed to be used by P & Z, developers, and the Board of Aldermen as they consider redevelopment options for our City.  During his 10+ years on the Commission, the last 2 of which have been as Vice Chairman, David has attended over 90 of the 100 meetings. David believes that this level of commitment, as well as the experience gained over those 10+ years, will be very beneficial to the next Ward 1 Alderman.

Since 1991, David has witnessed firsthand the growth and change to Brentwood. “Presently, almost one half of the City’s $25,000,000 revenue comes from sales tax. Brentwood is the 3rd best city in Missouri for starting a small business and the 2nd best place to buy a house in Missouri.” Missouri’s Department of Education rated the Brentwood School District as number 1 in the St. Louis area in its Annual Performance Report. Talking about Brentwood’s place in the community David believes “Brentwood is now a real player in St. Louis County and, as such, it is more important than ever this City have high quality employees to continue the growth and manage the day to day affairs of the City.  Recently, though, the City lost some very valuable employees and are at risk of losing more. It’s vital that we foster an environment to retain these employees.”

Another change is the emergence of other communities like Maplewood and Rock Hill as competitors to Brentwood.  “We cannot afford to lose ground in this highly competitive market to other municipalities.  Businesses have even more choices now when deciding where to locate.  The Board needs to work together if we are going to successfully compete for these businesses.”

David believes that Ward 1 deserves an alderman who will listen to the residents.  He believes his experience as an attorney representing clients will serve him in this capacity.  “An alderman should be able to advocate for his constituents in a professional manner.”

Beginning in January, David will hold a number of open houses to fully explain his vision for the City.  He looks forward to meeting with the Ward 1 voters to discuss this vision and to hear their concerns.

  1. I think this paragraph sums up a lot that is wrong with the whole county system.

‘Another change is the emergence of other communities like Maplewood and Rock Hill as competitors to Brentwood. “We cannot afford to lose ground in this highly competitive market to other municipalities. Businesses have even more choices now when deciding where to locate. The Board needs to work together if we are going to successfully compete for these businesses.”’

We, as a larger community, need to start working together for betterment and progress, not fighting against each other for the scraps of commerce. Maplewood, Brentwood, Richmond Heights, Rock Hill. They are all incredibly similar with the same people living in them. Improvement in one improves the surrounding communities as well. Where does it get Brentwood to rise in stature at the expense of all its neighbors?

Obviously the most glaring example of this need for regional planning is in the Home Depot/Lowes/Menards corridor.

  2. David Dimmitt is a member of the elite and privileged Kelly-Thornton Tribe and a close pal of David Plufka. The Kelly-Thornton Machine has been feverishly recruiting Dimmitt to unseat their “Public Enemy Number One,” Maureen Saunders. If Maureen Saunders and Cindy Manestar retire, the corrupt Good-Ole-Boy Club will be back in control of our city again, and Camelot will be a distant memory.

  3. I completely agree with Alethiea, this candidate is nothing more than a yes man for our prior Mayor and current Mayor. We citizens need an independent thinker and Dimwit is not one of them. If a picture is worth a thousands words, look at this man, seriously this is your promo picture? No way should we elect this lack or original thought straw man. Please Saunders run.

  4. we cannot elect a person who has never had a thought of his own. his track record will state very clearly he always voted the way the Mayor wanted him to vote. He is not his own man, just a follower. Brentwood deserves better.
Look at the picture, is this a mug shot or someone who really cares about people.
