After Maplewood voters passed Proposition Q by almost 70 percent in April, approving the QuikTrip move from 3010 South Big Bend Boulevard to the northwest corner of Manchester and Big Bend, the final step before demolition of the old Auto Plaza Ford building is set for Monday.
Correction: This originally stated demolition was set for Monday. The tap destroy is Monday—not demolition.
That’s the final utility tap destroy. When that is done, demolition is next, though it’s not yet scheduled.
A utility tap is the end of a pipe that delivers a utility, like water or natural gas, to a building. When a tap is destroyed, then the water or natural gas won’t escape if a building is demolished, for example.
Owner of the property, Daniel Lesseg, said delays in destroying utility taps to the building has held up demolition, which originally was to take place before Maplewood Richmond Heights began its school year.
The new QuikTrip will be what is known as a generation 3 store, which will be larger than the current location.
QuipTrik is very sophisticated when it comes to determining locations. I would guess that their marketing department has researched the six county metropolitan area and feels they can put another 40 or so stores in the greater metro area.
Gary – A utility tap is the end of a pipe that delivers a utility, like water or natural gas, to a building. When a tap is destroyed, then the water or natural gas won’t escape if a building is demolished, for example. Sorry for being unclear.
Thanks Doug. I’m probably one of a handful that didn’t know the term.
What the heck is a “utility tap”?
Well, they (QT corporation), are currently busy building the new QT at Page/Woodson road which I pass everyday going to work. I just wonder how many QT’s can the St. Louis area support?
