A Pizza Story should open in April, co-owner Muhammad Alhawagri said on Thursday. The Riverfront Times reported Alhawagri has had “construction setbacks.” One setback was the theft of tools from contractors on the site valued at approximately $1615 between Feb. 16-17. Alhawagri said it was not a break-in.
But work is continuing. “We’re done with the oven, the kitchen is in progress, the walk-in cooler is almost done, and there’s the hardwood floor to be installed. But we are actually progressing rapidly in the buildout,” he told the Riverfront Times.
Alhawagri showed 40 South News the kitchen, and pointed out that the walls are an easily washable material. “We could have painted it,” he said. “Everywhere we can, we’re doing more than is needed to pass the inspections.”
The wood-fired oven has been completed for about a month, and Alhawagri has been using the extra time to continue to cure the inside with the heat from three large light bulbs.
Servers will use mini-tablets for orders and payment, which will make it easier to track what’s working, Alhawagri told the RFT.
