Maplewood Citizens Academy tours public works

The spring session of Maplewood Citizens Academy is underway. The eight residents meet weekly to learn all aspects of city government.

Last week City Manager Marty Corcoran and Finance Director Karen Dilber gave an overview. Wednesday they heard from Library Director Terrence Donnelly, then learned from Pubic Works Director Anthony Traxler how the city maintains its 28 miles of streets, 50 miles of sidewalks, 252 blocks, 804 street lights and 2,164 street trees. They also saw some trucks.
