Diaper-changing record to be attempted in Maplewood

The current Guinness Book of World Records record for cloth diapers changed in a 24-hour period, worldwide is 8,301, set last year. Jaime Lueders, proprietor of Amber Sky (3100 Sutton Boulevard) is hosting the St. Louis location for The Great Cloth Diaper Change 2014.

She expects more than 75 mothers changing their babies at her shop, and expects the world record to easily be broken.

“Everyone will have their own 2-foot by 3-foot section on the floor,” she said. “Right at 11 a.m. everyone will change their kiddo’s diaper.”

She said cloth diapers save money and are more convenient. Also, “You don’t have the blow-outs like you have with disposables, and they’re a lot easier than the old days with the big old plastic pants and pins.”

Lueders said it gets harder when babies get older because they become more mobile and don’t want to stop playing. Her son Dmitri just turned two.

“You have to come up with creative ways to get him to lie down and get his diaper changed,” she said. “It gets harder, but you get pretty crafty.”

Amber Sky is also planning on hosting a 5-kilometer race on August 30 in Maplewood.
