Hamel Patel, a co-owner of the spot that was Applegate’s, in Brentwood (1912 S. Brentwood Boulevard) for decades, was there Friday as work continues to turn the location into a Einstein Bros. Bagels.
Patel said it worked out well to take over ownership at the beginning of 2014, around the time an “elderly gentleman” drove his car through the front of the building, though it took a while to work through the related insurance issues.
He said work is on schedule for a mid- to late-January opening. The Dickey’s Barbecue Pit will remain in the building. “People love barbecue,” Patel said.
