The nickname “River City” barely does justice to the amount of water flowing past St. Louis every single day, water that comes from 13 states and 2 Canadian provinces. The confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers just north of St. Louis has drawn inhabitants to the region’s fertile land for thousands of years.

This overview, presented by Andrew Wanko, public historian from the Missouri History Museum, will show how river connections shaped St. Louis industry, growth, and culture up to the turn of the 20th century.
