After almost being put on hold one more time, the Brentwood Board of Aldermen passed a bill to approve a 12-month trial period for food trucks in Brentwood at its meeting Monday night.
When a motion was made to send the bill, with revised wording, back to planning and zoning for review, aldermen Maureen Saunders (Ward 1) and Tom Kramer (Ward 4) protested how long the process was taking.
“I’m disappointed that it’s taken this many attempts,” Saunders said. “My concern is that we knew what we wanted but we can’t get the language right. I think our intent was clear when it went to legal.”
Kramer agreed, and city attorney Frank Albrecht said there’s been discussions back and forth, but he’d be happy to redraft the bill again.
After that, Mayor Pat Kelly suggested changing the bill in the meeting.
The wording, “special events,” was added so each approval of an event would be on a case-by-case basis, and a vendor couldn’t go to a city park or a private property, such as a business parking lot, month after month.
Also a limit of two food truck events per year per location was approved.
The bill needed six votes to pass because it would be an override of the planning and zoning recommendation. It passed, with Ward 2 Alderman Lee Wynn being the only dissenting vote.

Philip – The bill allows food trucks to be at city parks or private property on a case-by-case basis. They used the term special events in conjunction with parks. I think you could say that you’ll only see them in parks for “special events.”
