Former mayor of Maplewood Josef J. Hammes passed away on Fri., Nov. 6. He was 89. Hammes served as mayor from 1973 to 1979 and is credited for starting Maple Days, a carnival at which proceeds were raised to help senior citizens pay for lawn care, snow removal and home repair.
