Fund-raising biker falls a bit short of goal

Dr. William Madosky (Madosky Chiropractic & Acupuncture Center) over Labor Day weekend rode 186 miles — through storms, heat and three flat tires — on the KATY Trail to raise funds for Artists First (www.artistsfirststl.org).

His goal was to raise a total of $10,000. He had a matching donor, so that would have meant donations of half that amount. He raised $4,556 through donations, $9112 with matching funds.

Madosky reported on his ride:

It was an eventful two day journey. Day one (Friday) began with the sun rising in the east, storm clouds in the north and a southern wind. I rode 25 miles before the wind changed with rain, lightning and thunder forcing me to stop in Pilot Grove. Lightning and thunder forced me to stop again in Boonville but I eventually made it to Jefferson City, just as the skies cleared and the sun came out. My bike was so muddy I had to take it to a car wash to clean it.

Saturday was hot and humid and over the  first 75 miles I had three flat tires, with the last one occurring just outside of Marthasville. With 33 mile left to Creve Coeur Lake, I quit for the day. On Labor Day I rode the remaining miles to complete the 186 mile trip. My wife, Sharon McClinton, was invaluable driving the sag vehicle.
