Ground began to be cleared last week for the Lucerne, in Richmond Heights — 90 senior living units located along the 8800 block of Eager Road just west of Brentwood Boulevard.
It’s also just east of the recently begun EVO apartment complex (formerly known as Manhassett Village). It’s a $22 million development according to the St. Louis Business Journal.
The Richmond Heights Plan and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the project. WB Properties Olive LLC is the developer.
A public hearing was held for the development at the May 4 Richmond Heights City Council meeting. Sara Miclich with Stock & Associates, consulting engineer for the project, said rates for a studio apartment would be $4000 to $5000 per month, a 1-bedroom would be $6000 to $7000 per month and a 2-bedroom apartment would be $7000 to $7500 per month, according to the meeting minutes.
District 3 council member Ed Notter said most of the seniors in his district couldn’t afford that.
Miclich said the facility would be able to participate with the Veterans Association, consider pensions and long term care insurance to help people to afford the community. She said the competition — Sunrise Living and McKnight Place — are higher. Notter said he still feels that it would be difficult to see seniors from his district being able to afford the costs.
those prices are ridiculously high. And, as Jane said are comparable to private skilled nursing facility cost. I am an RN who specializes in geriatric care. Council Member Notter has real cause for concern. Only the rich will be able to afford this. Is this the message we want to send to our working class community? I think not.
What amenities are included for that cost? It sounds extremely high. Some of those rates are comparable to actual nursing homes that provide round the clock nursing care.
Thats WAY out of most seniors budget that I know
