The owner of I Scream Maplewood, Michael McLaughlin, told 40 South on Sunday that the ice cream shop in the 7300 block of Manchester Road has closed permanently. Saturday was its last day open.
He said it closed because he is moving to a new job out of state, but is confident that another ice cream shop will open in its place. He said The Crow’s Nest, which he also owns, will remain open.
McLaughlin and Kerry Soraci — owner of I Scream Cakes on Cherokee Street in south St. Louis city — opened the shop in May. The Cherokee Street location is remaining open.
McLaughlin said it is on the market and there is a lot of interest.
I didn’t think it would last. Prices were too expensive for what you got.
Andy’s Frozen Custard is opening in the parking lot of Menard’s at it is AMAZING.
Too sad. I disagree about the price/portions. It was comparable to Serendipity and some of the other top ice cream specialty stores around town. I’d been hoping for years that an ice cream place would open in Maplewood, and it finally happened! Now, I have to dream all over again. But, we get a fourth fried chicken place soon, huh?
The quantity of icecream depends on the generosity of the person scooping it.
I hate seeing any cool business go under in Maplewood, but I went once and didn’t need to go again. Strange tasting ice cream in tiny portions with a big price tag were not my thing.
that was fast
