Maplewood has a new ice cream shop, I Scream Cakes, at 7326B Manchester. It’s between Reeds American Table and J&E Office City. The ice cream is handmade at the original I Scream Cakes, on Cherokee Street in south St. Louis city, by owner Kerry Soraci.

Soraci describes her business as a micro-creamery. “We use organic dairy, sugar and eggs. The nice thing about doing it completely from scratch, we can control all the ingredients. I don’t have be dictated by what has been given to me from a prepackaged bag of stuff,” she told 40 South in November 2015 when she let the plan out.

Mike McLaughlin, owner of The Crow’s Nest (7336 Manchester Road) is a partner in the ice cream shop. McLaughlin said they kept the prices as low as they could, considering the ice cream is all handmade.

Some current flavors include peanut butter chocolate banana, orange habanero chocolate, blackberry coffee, oatmeal stout, blueberry cheesecake, lemon lavender swirl, pistachio, chocolate chip, mint chip, chocolate and vanilla.

The shop will use Kakao chocolate toppings. Floats and sodas are coming in the next couple of weeks.

Hours are Monday through Thursday 2 – 10 p.m., Friday 2 – 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 12 p.m. – 11 p.m.

  1. I’m really blown away by all the complaints about price. This is handmade, organic ice cream. To me the prices seem completely logical. Personally, I can’t wait to try some!
