Jerry Clemons Townsend, 34, of St. Louis, was charged with his third third stealing-related offense following an alleged theft at the Maplewood Walmart, according to court and police records.

At Walmart, Townsend selected five Lego building sets, placed them in a cart, then pushed it to the front of the store without paying for them. Once there he met two other men who removed the Lego sets and brought them to the customer service desk where they ‘returned’ the sets for a refund. Meanwhile Townsend went out to the parking lot and got into a Ford Contour. When the other men had finished their transactions they got into Townsend’s and drove away.

Townsend was identified via the license plate on the car. He was arrested several months later and admitted that he had been at the Walmart and that he had pushed the cart of Lego sets to the front of the store.
