Madge house demolished

The house at 8830 Madge Avenue was leveled in about an hour Monday morning.

The site plan for the house to replace it was approved at the Brentwood Architectural Review Board meeting last week. The main issue for residents of Madge, who came to the meeting, was trying to save a mature spruce tree in the front yard. The board decided the tree could not be saved — a driveway will be situated where the tree stood until Monday morning.

Ward 3 alderman, Steve Lochmoeller lives across the street. He said he got a post card in the mail Monday stating the house would be demolished in the next 10 days. He said it started about 10 minutes after the card came.

The board also approved a design for a new house at 9119 Lawn Avenue.

  1. They just took the small bulldozer away. The lot is leveled but the trees still stand Hopefully the crab apple (in full bloom) remains through the flowering season. Thanks to all for your interest.

  2. If the developer would simply place the new driveway where the old one was, the spruce tree could remain and continue to grace this property and our city with its shade and beauty. And the presence of the tree would increase the appeal and value of the new house. It’s estimated that this tree has lived in Brentwood for 80 consecutive years. Who among us can boast that? Is moving the driveway so important as to justify killing this tree? Misplaced priorities if you ask me. And Alderman Leahy says there’s another good reason for not moving this driveway, involving the site’s sewer lateral. I hope Aldermen Leahy and Lochmoeller will come to the rescue of this tree.

  3. I agree with David! How can designs like that fit into older neighborhoods? maplewood is just as bad. Garage in the back!

  4. Looks to be a positive for Brentwood. New home of good size where a family can raise thier kids and maybe attend Brentwood Schools. Property values go up for everyone on the street.

          • Who would that be doing a deal the owner of the 2 homes that sold for asking price or the builder that bought the homes for fair market value torn them down and invest more to build new or is the new future buyers . Owners have rights to do what they wish with their property. Where does the devil play into this. Not at all
