Former lawmaker hits driver with pistol in road rage attack

Russell C. Gunn, 67, of St. Louis, has been charged with second degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon in an attack at S. Hanley Road and Bartold Ave. in February, according to police and court records.
Road construction forced the victim to merge his 2005 Chevrolet pickup into Gunn’s lane, who was driving a 2013 BMW 535, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Gunn is a former state representative from Northwoods, the Post-Dispatch also reports.

Gunn the lane and reentered the lane in front of the victim. The victim then moved into the right lane after the construction cones. Gunn slammed his brakes twice, causing the victim to hit the back of Gunn’s car twice.

Gunn then grabbed his handgun — a 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol  — and left his car, walking toward the victim. Gunn hit victim in the head with the handgun. The handgun went off and a bullet went into Gunn’s car.

The victim fled from Gunn down Hanley Road and pulled over to hide from Gunn. Gunn got back into his car and pursued the victim. Police responded and arrested Gunn.
