Maplewood’s Side Project Cellar (7373 Marietta Avenue) has been named a 2016 semifinalist in the James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding Bar Program category, which honors restaurants or bars that demonstrate excellence in cocktail, spirits and/or beer service, Sauce Magazine reported on Feb. 17.

Side Project co-owner Karen King operates the Side Project Cellar tasting room with Cory King, brewer for Side Project Brewery. The bar features Side Project Brewery brews.

“Every year those come out and it’s always the best chefs in the freaking in world,” (Karen) King told Sauce. “So we’re excited, I know that!”

Cory King plans to open Side Project Brewery at 7458 Manchester Road.

I look forward to finding out what is going on in our little town. I often share your posts with my family. Please keep up the good work.

  2. Doug,

You’ve done a great job from the word go. Content taken, as long as there are link’s to the original article, this is done by a lot of content based sites. As long as you give credit, and don’t base your entire site on it, I have no issues with it.

  3. I would go there for a beer one of these days, but there are too many people! Perhaps they could bottle it for those who prefer to sip beer on their back porch…like me.

  4. Also winning James Beard Foundation nominations for Best Chef : Midwest are;

Kevin Nashan, Sidney Street Café, St. Louis
    Ben Poremba, Elaia, St. Louis
Mike Randolph, Público, University City, MO
    Kevin Willmann, Farmhaus, St. Louis

  5. seriously, how is reposting someone else’s article journalism? can you next story be your favorite gifs (copy and paste only)

    • Gus – I’m a one-person operation and find it’s more efficient to ‘repost’ – with attribution for some items. I think the readers would rather have the area news delivered to them in one spot in a timely manner, whether or not I can always talk to the original sources. Thanks for your comment. Reader comments are another part – a huge part – of the content of 40 South News.

      • Doug, I like what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Keep up the good work. I enjoy reading your articles and check in every day to see what’s new in our area.

      • Doug, thank you so much for your site. I love being able to find all of the news about Maplewood in one place. Thanks again!

    • Suggest that Gus perhaps not read 40 South if offended. I find it a fine resource and thank Doug. In addition to his own material, the re-posts bring value to his readers by keeping us from having to go to 10 other pubs and search for Maplewood, Brentwood or RH.

    • FYI, this is not a “repost” or whatever. That would be taking a chunk or more of a third party’s article and posting with permission and proper attribution/linkage.

      (Good example of that: http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/a-senseless-death—st-louis-officer-describes-aftermath/article_a3c69f0b-6977-54d6-b8d7-1edcaa5b9ad0.html)

This Side Project article by Doug is what’s known in the biz as a “news writeup,” with information culled — but no sentences copied — from the Sauce article. This is not a new concept.

    • Doug, you are a Maplewood /RichmondHeights/Brentwood treasure. We are a stronger community because of what you do. I have often seen you out and about and always appreciate the news you share–original or shared from other sources. Please keep doing exactly what you’re doing!
