Ben Triola and Dana Huth, co-founders of Rampant Interactive in Maplewood, are partnering with other locals to bring a ‘cat cafe’ to St. Louis.

Triola said Friday morning they’re popular in Asia, and the cafe coming to our area will feature 10-12 cats. It will be called Mauhaus, according to St. Louis Magazine.

Another Mauhaus co-founder, Taylor Maxwell, told St. Louis Magazine it’s a place where customers will be able to enjoy pastries and coffee with a cuddly cat.

“Our main focus in this, it’s not money, it’s going to be about the cats,” Maxwell told St. Louis Magazine. “We want them to be happy, and we want people to come enjoy them. That’s really what it’s all about.”

They haven’t announced a location yet but said they hope to open in spring or summer 2016. Triola said Friday that more details, including the location, will be announced in coming weeks. Maxwell hinted to St. Louis Magazine that Mauhaus will be near the St. Louis city-county borderline.

According to the magazine, Mauhaus has signed an agreement to buy its own space; it’s currently occupied.

Mauhaus announced on Twitter on Thursday that Traveling Tea—another Maplewood connection—is the first of many local partnerships in the cafe.

Maxwell told St. Louis Magazine that health department workers have been “extremely supportive” in helping them create two interlocked businesses, which could be a challenge considering it’s animals and food service. She said a hallway will divide the cafe’s counter and kitchen from the cats, but the space will be “really cohesive in style and theme and feel.”
