In the past, massage therapy studios have had a special conditional use in Maplewood, requiring three hearings in front of city council, and an additional $330 fee, Calliope Massage owner Halley Moore said.
Plan and zoning OK’d the massage studio, and said it shouldn’t have to go through extra hearings not required by other businesses before applying for a business license. Public works director, Anthony Traxler said Moore has already passed the Missouri state test.
Commission member, Pickett Lema, asked if a massage studio is allowed in the 7300 block of Manchester Road, and Traxler said it is, on the second floor.
Moore said she should be ready to open in about a month.
