Patch.com blogger, Doug Houser, wrote an article in Maplewood-Brentwood Patch about his experience writing on historic Maplewood. Houser is known locally as the Maplewood historian, and he wrote dozens of blogs in Patch on historic buildings and other topics.
He has the largest collection of photographs of Maplewood through the years of anyone, and has been working to digitize them to share on the Internet, which he sees as a way to interest more people in preserving our history.
Houser wrote on Patch:
“The Internet is changing the way we live in many ways, positive and otherwise. But I’m positive that it is dramatically increasing the number of people who are interested in our history and our historic architecture. This is truly rewarding. Maybe it will be less of a fight in the future to save some of our best buildings. Let’s hope so.”
He also mentioned two local websites for folks to follow: this one, 40 South News, and the Maplewood Heritage Society, created by Luke Havel.
