Stolen purse actually lost purse due to alcohol consumption, police say

Maplewood Police released an update on a previously reported theft, which turned out to be a false report.

A woman reported that her purse was stolen from her front porch in the 7200 block of Lyndover Avenue on Oct. 3.  She said she left her purse on the front porch for a brief moment. When she returned outside, she said she saw a man running from her front yard, and saw her purse was missing. She said  the man was running towards Bellevue Avenue. Police were unable to find the suspect or the stolen purse.

Update:
The 40-year-old woman who reported the theft was charged with filing a false police report on Oct. 10. When investigators spoke with her, she admitted that she lied about her purse being stolen from her front porch on Oct. 3. The woman said she actually lost her purse several days before Oct. 3 in another city but could not recall where due to her consumption of alcohol at the time.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Thursday that Traci Granger is the 40-year-old woman, of the 7200 block of Lyndover Place, who reported her purse stolen on Oct. 3.
