In my last post, A Tale of Two Albums – Part Five, alert readers may recall that in a couple of the images of a group of women sitting on the front steps of the Sappington home, I identified the image of an older woman as being that of Margaret Sutton. I feel fairly certain this is correct. Here’s why.
- She was the mother of Dr. Sappington’s wife, Annie.
2. She lived next door.
3. I have more information about her than probably any other member of the family.
This is one of the images from my last post that I’ve referred to. The older woman is probably Margaret L. Sutton, wife of John L., son of James Compton Sutton.
A page spread from my book, Maplewood History, Volume Two. Hard copies are sold out but digital ones are available from me.
From Newspapers.com. I don’t think I have ever tried to post a whole newspaper page before. If it works, this could be a game changer.
From the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, November 9, 1930, page 5.
So she died on the street that was named for her. It hadn’t been constructed when this map was printed in 1909. It still exists today just about where this map shows the property that belonged to her daughter, Sarah Wilson. The spelling has changed just a little to Margarette.
There are many more interesting photographs still to come from the two albums I’ve been dissecting.
Hopefully you can ignore the insanity and inanity in Washington long enough to enjoy these beautiful days we’ve been having.

We sure do, Julia. You are very welcome.
Thanks for the distraction Doug, we need it!
