The subject of our train stations is always popular. Here is another summer rerun that you latecomers may enjoy and my regular followers might like to have another look at.

Well, forgive me. These reruns are just so much easier than making a post from scratch. But I’ll be back to that pretty soon. When the daylight hours are shorter, I have more energy left to produce these posts.
If you are enjoying these cooler days, I’m happy for you. Heatophile that I am, I am already missing the 90 degree days.
As always, I appreciate your interest and support.

Addendum: For Wanda

The demolition occurred in 1965.

Thanks, Doug. I always assumed the stone staircase leading up to the track/grass at Marshall and Arbor was related to a prior station that is no longer there. Thanks for providing the history and pictures.
My pleasure, Bob.
Dear Doug, I grew up on the east portion of Elm Avenue and crossed these railroad tracks at Arbor and Elm to ride the bus to Junior High and High School 1961-1965. Not only that, but my Mother owned and ran Whitneys Confectionary one building east of the corner of Commonwealth and Greenwood facing south in clear view of this location.(And I worked there after school.) For sure, within these windows of time, the depot was not there. The paved strip to cross the tracks between Arbor and Greenwood did remain. That’s how we crossed to catch school bus on the east side of Greenwood. Don’t know why the dates don’t match, but I saw only steps and knew a depot has been there …but NEVER saw one.
DO love seeing these pictures of it, however! Always wondered about that! Thx for providing this information!! (Guess Webster Groves got to keep theirs.)
P.S. My parents moved to Maplewood when my dad was transferred from Kansas City. (I was 5 as they landed in St. Ann, but 4 kids later…) MoPac consolidated all of their test labs in St. Louis, down on Chouteau. He could take one bus from Sutton and Maplewood downtown to work (He never drove or knew how to😉) Thx, Doug❣️
Pickett, I looked through my files and couldn’t find the source of the 1965 demolition date for the depot. I must have gotten the image from our library many moons ago. It was in the title that I gave to the image. If I come across the clipping again, I’ll be sure to copy it all. As always, thank you for your recollections. They’re always very interesting especially the one about your father never needing to drive a car. Wow.
Hi Doug! Thought you might enjoy the 1933 Historic American Buildings Survey page–I searched “Maplewood Missouri” and found some great photos of the Bartold Grove building. Enjoy! https://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/hh/item/mo0067/
Thank you, KF. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Thank you, Doug! Do we know what year the Maplewood train station was torn down?
1965. I’ll attach a newspaper clipping about it to this post. Good to hear from you, Wanda.
