Horace Rayford has been upholstering furniture since 1959.
He started out in Richmond Heights at Big Bend Boulevard and Dale Avenue then moved to Rock Hill. He’s been in Maplewood at HR Upholstery (7421 Manchester Road) for about six years.
Rayford, 71, said it’s the people who come into his shop that makes his work enjoyable, and also taking pride in his work.
“I’ve been pretty blessed,” he said. His only complaint is a shortage of parking.
Recently, Rayford used the Maplewood sign shop, The Designery, to paint his logo, hours and phone number on the front his business.
