Maureen Saunders, incumbent for Brentwood Ward 1 alderman, after stating she would withdraw from the April 5 election, has said she did not remove her name and is letting it stand.

Saunders this statement to 40 South News Monday afternoon:

Statement from Maureen Saunders regarding April 5, 2016 election:

I decided to withdraw from the election because I was dealing with relocating aging parents and did not have the time to run a strong campaign. I contacted St. Louis County election Board and was told I needed a court order to withdraw my name. I decided to just leave my name on the ballot.

I have been contacted by many citizens offering to run a campaign to reelect me as their Ward 1 Alderman. These citizens asked me to continue to fight for the residents’ best interests.

I have accepted the residents offer to campaign on my behalf. If I am reelected as the Ward 1 Alderman, I will gladly and wholeheartedly continue to represent the interest of the residents. I love the City of Brentwood and have always been honored to help serve the schools and our city. It is a way for me to give back to the community and show our youth that their voice does make a difference in the world.

Maureen Saunders

Ward 1 Alderwoman

Saunders is running for the seat against challenger David Dimmitt, who filed to run on Dec. 15. See Dimmitt’s statement.

  1. Jerry – why would you make such an ignorant comment about Saunders turning Brentwood to a gravel road? Just makes you look like an insider who has taken advantage of the monies misplaced. The road became a problem when prior individuals turned it over to the county. Put blame where it belongs Jerry, and also, grow up.
If you are going to post put on some big boy pants first, you sound like a petulant little child.

  2. Can this stuff stop? I’ve lived in Brentwood for nearly 35 years. My in-laws (my kids grandparents) have been here for nearly 70 years. I’ve lived on the same street for these 35 (and my family for these 70) years. I have decided that the next two years that I will prepare my house for sale. I never thought I would get to the point that I would walk away. My ex left last year when MSD bought his house. Looking at Manchester Blvd, it looks like remnants of bombing. We are our own worst enemy.

Glad Maureen is going to stay in the race. But think I’m done fighting for what I always thought was best for BW and my family.

  3. Oh, Maureen—I understand how REALLY difficult things have been, as you disclosed the personal upheaval, that would set anyone back. I am so grateful that you are staying in. You are the details person. You are the fact checker. You are the words of the people’s interests at meetings. You do NOT back down when you are right. And you deal effectively with the bully-mentality that tries, but does not succeed in shutting you down. You are a force of nature to be reconned with—keeping everyone above board, and calling out hidden and expensive agenda items, superfluous to the needs of the City. Thank you so much for speaking out on behalf of the people. Blessings. love, maureen

    • second tier thought: Now that our ship has it’s tried and true rudder back, i would like again to invite the mayor to take a 6 month hiatus, put Ald. Krammer–elected by EVERYONE but the mayor and his own aldermanic pic–to take over the mayoral position. And just as i offered, if he does this, i will never post about him again. Besides, some “bad girl” is BEGGING for a rest. THANK YOU ALDERMAN SAUNDERS. love, maureen

      • Maureen,
There is still an election to be held. Ms. Saunders is by no means a shoo-in to retain her seat. I would also suggest that you drop your insistence that Mayor Thorton step aside for 6 months for Ald. Kramer. If the citizens of Brentwood wanted Kramer as mayor, they would have elected him. Of course, since Kramer didn’t run for mayor, it’s kind of hard to vote for him. We didn’t so it’s time to let Chris Thorton do his job. Love, luck and lollipops, Mike

          • Maureen Wheat,
We are SO fortunate to have such an out-spoken resident as yourself watching over Brentwood.
A person of your advanced age and unchanging opinions, give this community a true insight to how things were run here, in the 1790’s.
Maureen Saunders, I’m sure, is delighted to have your support to further her conservative views. With your help, very soon, Maureen Sanders will turn Brentwood Blvd into a gravel and asphalt road, much like the roads we had in the 1790’s. By not trying to change our decrepit water delivery systems we have new ‘springs’ appearing on the streets, every day.
So, thanks to the older, more ‘experienced’, conservative (set in their ways), octogenarian members of of the community, for taking us back to the Good Old Says.

        • Hi Mike, Marty and Jerry, c’mon…do you really think i would pay mind to your opinion, on a deal i have offered the mayor? And that deal stands. Now, you men, probably ‘high fiving’ each other, i am discouraged. There are so many glaring errors in your logic, that even i would not want to embarrass you by pointing them out. if you want to learn about your erroneous positions, contact me privately. love, luck and lolipops –that was cute–and i might use it myself! 🙂 love, maureen

          • Maureen,
Please feel free to point out my “glaring errors” in my logic. I’m always willing to learn if I’ve made a mistake. The deal will work both ways, however. I’m going to point out the “glaring sexism” in your comment. The “you men, probably ‘high fiving’ each other” allows you to dismiss any comment you don’t agree with. Turn that around and make it “you women”. If I wrote that, I would (rightly) be jumped on my many people for being a sexist.
I’m going to reiterate what I wrote before- If Ald. Kramer wanted to be mayor, he should have run.
A final point- Marty is a woman, not a man. Your prejudices are showing.

        • Hi Mike, I sincerely apologize to Marty for thinking of the name as short for Martin. Martha, Martina, Marianna, Marita–are the first four women’s names that are also shortened to the friendlier “Marty”. Your errors are as follows: Ald. Krammer did not run for mayor, but he did not withdraw from the 3 time vote tie with Alderman Saunders to be second chair–whereas Alderman Saunders did–just to move the process forward. So if he really had a problem with the responsibility, it would have been manifest at that time. Next, I point out the entire board (except for Chris and Patrick) voted FOR Alderman Krammer–not Patrick. Do you see a broader sentiment than just my say-so? I just happen to be the one to bright-line it. Number three–I have to decline your suggestion that I drop the deal, if Chris steps down for 6 months, putting his second in charge–i would never post about him again. There is only ONE thing that will allow me to stop posting about Chris–and someone needs to figure it out. He and we will all be better for it. Lastly, when it comes to politics and theology, i am gender neutral. This was not a sexist wording, but citing an early evolutionary gang mentality to protect Chris from my posts. Only Chris has the power to stop me. As soon as someone figures it out for him, or he gets it on his own– I promise “the bad girl” will take her needed rest. And yes–i like it—“Love, luck and lollipops” back atcha Mike! love, maureen 🙂

          • Maureen,
Just a heads up, Mayor Thorton never voted for the Acting President of the Board. As the position is, by statute, elected by the Board of Alderman.

            Love, wishes and pixie dust,
            Jennifer Horton

          • Hello Jen Horton. I stand corrected. You and Mike have truly nailed the art of wonderful sign-offs! Love, luck, & pixie dust 🙂 maureen
