Miriam Switching Post moved from Maplewood, on Big Bend, to 292 Hanley Industrial Court in Brentwood in mid-September, and manager, Anne Carr is very pleased.

“All the proceeds here go to fund base scholarships for kids that go to school or utilize the Miriam Learning Center,” Carr said. “Everything is donated to us, and it’s tax-free because we’re not for profit.”

They moved because they needed more space for parking and storage. Carr said they were turning things away.

“We get really nice stuff,” she said. “We have very generous donors. We have  a work force of mostly volunteers — 42 dedicated people, and three that want to start soon.”

She said so far they’ve had a very good response, except for one thing: “I think the biggest complaint is people having a hard time finding us at first,” she said. “It’s confusing because we face Strassner, and we don’t face Hanley Industrial, and the post office said we had to have a Hanley Industrial address.”

But overall, “It’s good for us,” she said. “We needed space. Parking was a big issue over there. Getting in and out of Big Bend was dangerous at times.”
