Some Maplewood Richmond Heights school kids in a Maplewood neighborhood, calling themselves the “MRH Super Kids,” have a plan to save a struggling Maplewood business.

Despite the success The Book House has had in Maplewood following its move from their original location in 2013, the store has struggled with paying debt for buildout costs, and has reached a deadline. It needs to raise $10,000 before the end of June, above its normal operating profits, or it may not be able to renew its merchant’s license, and be forced to close its doors.

The bookstore has started an online campaign to raise the $10,000, so far raising almost $2,000.

The MRH kids will host the “Lemon-AID for the Book House” on Thursday, May 28, from 4 – 6 p.m. at the corner of Sutton and Zephyr across from Ryan Hummert Park.

They’ll be selling lemonade, bookmarks and crafts to raise money. All proceeds will be given to the store’s online fundraiser.

See the Facebook invitation for the sale.
