Of the nine candidates who filed to run for office in the April election in Brentwood, only one has spent money on a campaign.

Candidates are required to file with the Missouri Ethics Commission, either at the election commission office or online.

Mayoral candidate, Patrick Toohey, filed online in September so his reports are available on the Missouri Ethics Commission website. So far he’s spent $587 and has $100 on hand. The banner over Maddenfest cost his campaign $450.

A candidate is required to file a report 40 days before the election if contributions have been accepted or expenditures made for the election. A report is required eight days before the election, but only if a candidate has opened a committee and spent more than $1,000.

Since Mayor Pat Kelly has been in office and continued to run the past approximately  22 years, he has had an election committee open during that time, and it still is, according to his record at the election commission.

Now that Kelly is not running in April 2015, he will need to terminate the committee or amend the organization statement if he decides to run. To be a write-in candidate, he would need to file a declaration of intent before 5 p.m. the second Friday immediately preceding the election day.

  1. Before the stuff starts flyin’, I want to iterate that Pat Kelly should play an emeritus role in B’wd govt. He has wisdom and experience that would be hard to replace, if taken off the record. I do not believe he needs to run again, but his experience is invaluable. If he should have a soft spot for Brentwood, maybe he will contribute as any wise man, finished with the job but not finished with the City.

  2. Editor 40 South, I will not be answering responses to this post, as I already am aware of from where they come

In terms of ethics, RESIDENT ORIENTED PLANNING AND SPEAKING, and bringing homestyle civility back to B’wd, so far, candidate MARK WILSON has been the most forth coming in residents’ concerns & issues.

Candidate Wilson’s up-front initial post was all about B’wd’s best interested in returning to a civil community, where residents are heard, major projects have to cut muster with the residents before advancing. Wilson had the only comprehensive “out of the gate” response prepared when candidates were interviewed by 40 South.
I also am aware antagonistic pen-name “Mr/Ms. C…” is in the alderman Toohey corner. Having met with Ald. Toohey, gaining one perspective, and then tracking the “Mr. C…” another-poster, who has all too many times brought my name into posts that I had nothing to do with I cannot any longer believe candidate Toohey for stability of his word.

Supporters of MARK WILSON read the opening statements on file in 40 South. Wilson speaks “hometown – commercial development balance” in B’wd. He continues to deserve all the more attention in terms of consistency and hometown progressive views in a generous spirit of listening–not deceiving.

Responses are insignificant to me. I believe in Brentwood and we are moving out of residential control into the small neighborhood inundated with commerce. Mark Wilson is the only candidate who is straight forward, and with a residential Brentwood oriented agenda. And he did it with good heart and a free press interview. Sort of gives him credibility–no ax to grind, no personal infatuation…just a guy who loves B’wd.
