Opinion: Ray Reed for Missouri House District 83

Missouri House District 83 friends,

I’m supporting Representative Ray Reed’s re-election, and I’d like to explain why I think you should, too.

Ray grew up in the district, where he attended both St. Mary Magdalen School and Brentwood High School. As a lifelong resident and Democrat, Ray is attuned to the needs of his constituents and the Party.

I don’t know his opponent, Brentwood Mayor David Dimmitt, but Mr. Dimmitt seems to be running a non-partisan campaign, where he issues anodyne statements such as support for public school funding. What does Mr. Dimmitt think of Missouri’s voucher program? We don’t know because he doesn’t say. As a former local NEA president, it’s important to me that Ray opposes vouchers, and has secured the endorsement of MNEA.

While non-partisanship is important and appropriate in municipal government, it is very much NOT what I’m looking for in a state representative. This state has been controlled by Republicans for more than two decades. MO83 is a Democratic district, and I’d like it to be represented by a real Democrat. We need someone who is a fighter, someone who stands with our LGBTQ+ friends, instead of ignoring Pride month. We need someone who knows that abortion is healthcare, and that birthright citizenship is guaranteed by the Constitution. We deserve to know what our state representative thinks about controversial issues such as vouchers, and the upcoming ballot amendments.

Ray represents a new generation of leadership in Jefferson City where younger and diverse voices are sorely needed. That’s why I encourage everyone to join me in supporting Representative Ray Reed on August 4th.

Sincerely,
Robin Duntze D.V.M.
Brentwood, MO
