Maplewood Planning and Zoning on Monday approved a Culver’s restaurant to be located at the site of the former Steak ‘n Shake, at 7606 Manchester Road.
After discussions with the project manager and owner about the nearby apartments, speakers used in the drive-in, lighting, hours and expected traffic for the expected-to-be popular spot, the commission voted 4-0 to send it on to the city council.

Looking forward to having Culver’s in the neighborhood. It’s a great restaurant and a fantastic addition to Maplewood. We’re excited to welcome a new business to the area and wish the entire team much success with the new location.

I always wished the owner would donate the property to the MRH school, which is right next door. They desperately need the parking. Also, I’m not fond of the idea of having a busy fast-food restaurant right next door to the school’s playground.
Great idea. I love Culver’s. Just always been too far to go to regularly.
Omg I’m so stoked. Culver’s is an amazing replacement! Burgers are amazeballs!
I think Culver’s is at the top of the list of “fast food” places. Food is great, help is courteous and helpful.
Some of my friends and I meet once a month at either Eureka or Kirkwood and have never had a bad experience.
You’ll like it.
I am looking forward to Culver’s. I love the fish—even walleye in season, salads, burgers and ice cream, and they run a clean, friendly place
Culver’s is kind of upscale for Maplewood. I hope it makes it there. Their food is wonderful!
Upscale? It’s good enough for Kirkwood. And while I’d prefer a non-chain restaurant, it would be a welcome addition to that vacant space.
Apparently you are unaware of all of the national award winning chefs and restaurants in Maplewood.
Culver’s may be good I personally have never eat their. For me, another corporate fast food chain does not align with the Maplewood Downtown area so I would vote against. The location is excellent; I myself would be excited to see a revamped, Maplewood-vibe new Stake and Shake. With Stake and Shake’s new owner-manager concept, I believe there’s a chance of a long-lasting, possibly historic vibe. Just my thoughts.
Doug, was there a site plan presented? Culvers would be a nice addition there, but I would be worried about how they design the parking/drive thru lines. Is the building set back? How does the building connect to the sidewalks? Did P&Z consider pedestrians as much as cars?
Exciting news! I am happy to see a Culver’s going in in Maplewood. The empty lot is an eyesore and Culvers is a great addition!
