photo(4)Oh for the days when the neighborhood kids did dangerous stuff on a cobbled together go-cart or dirt bike. Now, at least, you can have the smell.

Maplewood businesses Flying Tiger and Maven have collaborated on Two Stroke Smoke—candles made from “real live Blendzall Racing Castor 2 stroke oil with high-octane fragrance,”
according to Flying Tiger’s site.

Flying Tiger owner Eric Bess brought the idea to Maven owner Kate Bethel, who knows how to make candles that smell good.

“I told her it’s not going to smell good to you. It’s not supposed to,” Bess said. “Think of it as—grandma’s house had that weird smell—but it kind of makes you harken back to those days of hanging out with grandma. That weird smell is the important thing.”

They introduced the candles a couple months ago, and they’ve taken off for the Christmas season.

“We went through three cases in a day,” Swanson last Wednesday. “We’ve ordered three dozen in the last two days.” As of Christmas Eve they’ve sold 50 cases (12 per case).

Multiple well-known motorcycle-related websites have picked up the candles too.

You can order yours at Flyingtigermoto.com, just realize you’ll need to allow 7-10 business days for shipping. Or try your luck at Flying Tiger at 7231 Manchester Road. They’re open Christmas Eve.
