Richmond Heights man allegedly hid murder suspect, charged with hindering prosecution

A man in Richmond Heights man who allegedly helped a murder suspect hide from police under a bed in his house has been charged with hindering prosecution, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Zakariyah M. Benruwin, 25, of the 1200 block of Yale Avenue, was charged on March 17. The charge is a felony. Bail was set at $5,000.

Benruwin was a friend of Dustin McDanel, who was wanted for fatally shooting a man in Iowa, in a dispute over a dog.

Sgt. Gerry Rohr of the Richmond Heights Police Department said Benruwin confessed to hiding McDanel while knowing he was on the run from police, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
