A Richmond Heights man was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison in the second-degree murder of his 67-year-old father in St. Louis in May 2014.

Laderic Felix McDonald, of the 2200 block of S. Big Bend, was charged last year with murder and armed criminal action. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that court documents accuse McDonald of bludgeoning his father with a hammer and strangling him with a wire in a St. Louis senior apartment building.

McDonald was sentenced to life in prison, or 30 years, for second-degree murder, plus 20 years for armed criminal action. McDonald must serve a minimum of 28½ years before he is eligible for parole, according to the Post-Dispatch.

When McDonald was arrested June 3, 2014, the judge wouldn’t allow him to be released on bail.

According to court documents, McDonald was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the second degree murder charge, and one life sentence for armed criminal action.
