The 2016 MileSplit All-American Girls Team, presented by New Balance, was announced on July 4, and Brentwood’s Sophia Rivera topped the list of javelin throwers honored. Rivera was a MileSplit All-American in 2015 as well.
Rivera is in Eugene, OR, at the USA Track and Field Olympic Trials with her parents as a spectator. She qualified for the trials with a throw in Brentwood of 180 feet 4 inches, but injured her elbow and withdrew. She has her sights on the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
