Schaefer Shell, if forced to move, will warranty its repair work through its station on Chippewa and Donovan, owner Gene Kohler told 40 South News Thursday.

McDonald’s representatives met with residents about a proposed McDonald’s on the corner of Manchester and Big Bend in December. The Shell station doesn’t own the property and would be forced to move.

“We want everybody to know that no matter if, and or when this occurs, that we’re going to warranty our work,” Kohler said. “We want to make sure the world knows we’re not just going to walk away from this property.”

He said Schaefer Shell would be offered a stipend to move if it’s forced out by McDonald’s. He said it’s not large. “We’re not going to hit it big,” Kohler said.

Kohler said he and others at the station are of the mindset that it’s going to happen. See also: Site plans for proposed Maplewood McDonald’s

“When they originally brought up the QuikTrip deal everybody and their brother was upset about that, and guess what’s there—Quiktrip,” he said.

Kohler said no one currently has signed contracts on anything, including Circle K (owner of the Schaefer Shell property) or the owners of the homes behind the station that McDonald’s wants rezoned to commercial.

McDonald’s backed out of a Maplewood Planning and Zoning meeting in January and didn’t contact the city to appear in February. The agenda for the March 2 meeting hasn’t been released. The commission only meets when needed.

McDonald’s area real estate manager, Kyley Mills, hasn’t returned messages left Wednesday and Thursday about McDonald’s plans.

  1. McDonalds is set to meet Wednesday, March 4th @ 7:00pm with the Plan & Zoning committee in the City Hall Council Chambers. PLEASE plan to attend and let them know that Maplewood does NOT want them at the corner of Big Bend & Manchester! The old site at Deer Creek would be a much better site and they could use the money they would spend buying out a neighborhood business to bring it up to code! This is just WRONG for Maplewood!!
