A Maplewood business owner told Maplewood police he feared for his life before he realized a would-be robber was pointing a squirt gun at him.

On March 17, a little before 5 p.m., Amanuel Perkins, 19, of Florissant, entered Sole Survivor Leather store and allegedly demanded money. When the owner saw the multicolored toy gun he pushed it away and kicked Perkins out, before police came to arrest him, according to KMOV.

Maplewood Police said Perkins denied that he intended to rob the store, claiming it was a St. Patrick’s Day joke.

Perkins is charged with one count of attempted first-degree robbery. He is held on $25,000 bond, according to court records.
