St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School announced in a press release Friday that the school has received an anonymous donation of $5,000 to support the school’s efforts to address bullying.

Principal Kathy Wiseman told parents the news at the back to school night, and how the school plans to address bullying and other forms of social cruelty, along with its commitment to ethical behavior. Wiseman feels it is more important now than ever that the students are given the strategies and tools to deal with society in a Christian and ethical way.

The plan is to implement the Owning Up curriculum, to teach the students to have moral courage and Christian values to cope with the daily encounters they face.

To further enhance instruction, St. Mary Magdalen Middle School parents and students have been invited to a Brentwood community presentation: “Rachel’s Challenge,” a program that focuses on spreading kindness and acceptance of others in a dramatic way.

  1. Gary. Not long ago I met up with a former bully at a local bar. He apologized. We talked and he thought of it more than I did. By thewaym we are now friends.

    • We are sorry for any past hurts to those who have been victim to bullying. We are committed to giving our students the tools and strategies to deal with society in a Catholic Christian way. We are implementing programs to help teach the children the importance of respecting one another and treating others with kindness. We are hoping to stay in the forefront of this extremely important issue.

      • I’m glad to hear of anti-bullying efforts. Damage from bullying can last a very long time. I know how it has affected me from my public school experience and a reason I support home schooling. I doubt the bullies think about the harm they caused. I’m instead they’d say “get over it”, which is what I’ve heard from one. Because we’re creatures of habit that is way easier said than done. It needs to be stopped in the first place.
